Washington State Parks employs more than 500 permanent staff and more than 350 seasonal and temporary staff throughout the state. The headquarters office is located in Tumwater, and region offices are located in Burlington, East Wenatchee and Tumwater.
This person represents the agency as a registered Professional Engineer and provides/approves final engineering designs and decisions. This position requires the ability to exercise sound independent professional judgment in making decisions concerning all facets of engineering design, permitting, and construction.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for the preparation of engineering reports/studies, constructions drawings, technical specifications and constructions, cost estimates for a wide variety of capital development projects.
  • Acts as Constructions Project Manager, including, but not limited to:
    • Performing construction site inspections
    • Negotiating change orders
    • Preparing contract payments
    • Preparing contract closeout documentation
    • Handling contract dispute claims
  • Provide professional supervision/direction to sub-professional technical staff.
  • Provide various levels of engineering design and plan reviews to ensure compliance with Agency design and drafting standards, acceptable level of quality in the finished product and legal code compliance.
  • Perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC), to ensure accuracy of survey and layout data.
  • Negotiate with public entities, regulatory agencies, utilities, and other public and private project stakeholders concerning easements, services, regulatory permitting, and other agreements/requirements.


  • Bachelor's degree with a major study in civil or environmental engineering or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in environmental or civil engineering.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Washington.
  • A valid driver's unrestricted driver's license (other than corrective lenses).

This recruitment will be used to fill five (5) permanent, full-time, Environmental Engineer 3 positions with Northwest, Southwest and Eastern Region Capital Programs. These positions are located in Tumwater (SW), Burlington (NW) and East Wenatchee (Eastern), Washington.
