Salary: $123,802.00 - $146,640.00

The Street Transportation Department is seeking a Deputy Street Transportation Director to lead the Street Maintenance Division. The Street Transportation Department is looking for a creative and engaged leader, who is passionate about transportation and have a strong commitment to our mission, continuous improvement, and innovation. This individual will understand the importance of community engagement and building strong partnerships. Supervision is exercised over professional, supervisory, technical, and field staff.


This position leads a team of approximately 300 employees, who include field, paraprofessional, technical, and professional employees. The Division is organized into three sections: engineering services, field operations, and special programs. The engineering services section includes pavement management, landscape management, and bridge and dam safety. The field operations section covers general maintenance, preventative maintenance, and street cleaning. The special program section works on our Adopt-a-Street and Street Light Pole Banner programs.


This dynamic leadership position is responsible for overseeing our Cool Pavement and Cool Corridors programs, our $200 million accelerated pavement maintenance program, Street Maintenance Worker Apprentice Program, as well as emergency storm event / monsoon response.


In general, the Deputy Street Transportation Director position is responsible for organizing, planning, directing, and managing the activities of an assigned division by meeting performance objectives; managing complex programs and projects with staff; preparing and making presentations at various meetings; and serving on committees and interdepartmental groups. Supervision is exercised over professional, supervisory, technical, and field staff. Frequent consultation and coordination with Street Transportation management staff, City Manage's Office, City Council staff, citizens, and other agencies and jurisdictions regarding policy proposals and solving complex problems is common.


As Deputy Street Transportation Director, the position will evaluate technical information and provide valid recommendations to complex issues; develop and manage division budgets; evaluate for operational efficiency and innovation; and be responsible for the implementation of city and department policies.


This position exercises considerable initiative and independent judgment and works under the general supervision of the Assistant Street Transportation Director.
