Position Summary
The City of Dania Beach is committed to employing a talented and diverse workforce. We are currently seeking a Deputy Director to join our dynamic Public Services Team. This position involves professional engineering tasks that exceed average complexity, aimed at enhancing the management of development within the City. The ideal individual will operate under the general supervision of the Public Services Director. As an assistant department head, the incumbent is responsible for supporting or stepping in for the Director when necessary.
Responsibilities include assisting in the planning, organization, direction, and supervision of the Public Services Department's activities, which encompass capital improvement project management. The position also entails providing expert professional guidance to the Director and other departments in various areas of expertise, such as engineering, infrastructure planning, stormwater management, water treatment and distribution, sewage collection, solid waste management, roadway improvements, and landscape maintenance, along with performing related duties as needed. The role encompasses the analysis of unique conditions and circumstances that may arise during projects, providing support in addressing complex engineering and construction challenges, and aiding in the execution of citywide infrastructure and development goals. The individual is tasked with reviewing site plans, plats, and permits related to building and right-of-way usage to ensure adherence to drainage, paving, grading, water, and sewer regulations as stipulated by City codes. This includes offering feedback to design professionals, preparing necessary staff memos and reports, and coordinating with various local government entities, including Broward County, DPEP, SFWMD, FDOT, and other relevant county, state, and federal organizations. What's required: (Minimum Requirements)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
- Minimum of six (6) years of increasingly responsible municipal engineering experience.
- Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience along with substantial experience in managing public works capital improvement programs, transportation engineering, and development planning.
- Must hold a current State of Florida Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with an overall good driving record is required. If the driver’s license is out of state, must be able to obtain a Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days of the hire date.
What's preferred: (Desired Requirements)
- Eight (8) to ten (10) years of increasingly responsible municipal engineering experience.
- Four (4) to six (6) years of supervisory experience along with substantial experience in managing public works capital improvement programs, transportation engineering, and development planning.
